Support for the Self-employed
The COVID-19 outbreak presents an unprecedented situation for everyone. The UK Government has listened to concerns about support for businesses and employees, however the self-employed have been completely overlooked.
Currently, the only option available for most self-employed people who have lost their income is Universal Credit. Although the Chancellor has announced measures to raise this to the same level as Statutory Sick Pay, this simply doesn’t go far enough. £94 per week is not a sustainable amount of money to replace lost income. I have written to the Chancellor to urge him to put a financial support package in place for the self employed urgently.
I believe that the Chancellor can be persuaded to change his mind, and provide better support to help the self-employed, sole traders, and freelancers throughout this difficult period. I’ll certainly continue to do all I can to press this issue and secure change.
Please use the form below to let me know that you’re self-employed and agree with me on the need for further support from the Government. In return, I’ll use your details to keep you informed about this specific issue.
