UK Government missing the point on emergency towing vessel

ETV”It’s time to listen & reinstate the second emergency towing vessel”

Whilst I welcome today’s commitment to continued medium term funding for this one emergency towing vessel, the UK Governments’ is simply still not listening. They are sorely missing the point that for proper coastal protection, especially in the West Coast, we need a minimum of two emergency towing vessels. That is, after all, what every voice in the Highlands has been telling them for many years, including leaders of Highlands & Islands local authorities and politicians from all parties and none.

“In his announcement the Minister said emergency towing vessels are critical to ensuring emergency services can respond swiftly to incidents off the coast of Scotland – to achieve this we now need swift action from the Minister – He must now approve the reinstatement of the second emergency towing vessel in Stornoway.
